Scratch Off Systems, a provider of custom scratch-off printing products, has acquired an HP Indigo 7K digital press, adding further production capacity and product range to its fleet.

The HP Indigo 7K digital press installed at the company’s headquarters in Twinsburg, OH, USA, supports the business as it moves into a phase of growth, emerging from the pandemic. 

Dan Ogorek, president of Scratch Off Systems, comments, “Our primary reason for purchasing the 7K press, along with the excellent reliability and print quality of an HP Indigo press, was having the ability to print the scratch-off panel directly on a printed sheet using the easy release ink. This allowed us to reduce the manufacturing steps involved and the ability to provide our customers with any size, shape, or color scratch-off options. Going forward, our new capabilities will allow us to continue providing the market with unique scratch-off products and services while expanding more into markets such as the gaming and retail sectors. The HP Indigo 7K press has certainly been a great fit for us!”

The combination of specialty inks and higher productivity with one-pass printing in full color and scratch off panel translates to improved turnover times and high quality print. Ogorek continues, “for us, not only has the 7K stood out, but also the applications. We have been using HP Indigo ElectroInk Easy Release, which was created specifically for the scratch off applications we need. We have also been able to create a series of designs we couldn’t have created before which has led to us picking up new contracts in the hospitality and ad agency sectors.”

Created as an industry first, HP Indigo ElectroInk Easy Release, the only digital scratch off solution in the market, allows users to utilize CMYK + ElectroInks on both the top layer that is scratched off, and the bottom layer that is revealed, rather than the traditional silver or gold. For the customer, the advantage is shorter runs, faster time to market and enormous customization capabilities for even the most specific of needs.

In 2003 Scratch Off Systems acquired their first flexo press to manufacture scratch-off labels, soon after receiving inquiries for digitally printed cards that also included a scratch-off. This created two distinct markets for the company; scratch-off panels for gift cards and promotional scratch and win programs.
